Born in Kyoto. Moved to the United States at the age of seventeen as an exchange student. Graduated from Parsons School of Design Photography Department BFA degree in NY. In 2005 moved to Tokyo. In 2008 published first book SOL ARIKO from AKAAKA Art Publishing. In 2011 decided to take over the ancestral soba and cake restaurant, a family business since the 15th century in Kyoto. （www.honke-owariya.co.jp) She works as the restarant owner and as a photographer. She is based in Kyoto and works on her ongoing project, Erna and Hrefna, in Iceland every summer.

１９７５年、京都生まれ。１７歳でアメリカSan Diegoの高校に留学。９９年ニューヨークの美術大学パーソンズスクール写真科卒業。０５年東京にベースを移す。０８年『SOL ARIKO』が赤々舎より出版される。１１年より京都に戻り、実家である５５０年余続く蕎麦と菓子屋の本家尾張屋（www.honke-owariya.co.jp)の跡継ぎをしながら, 写真家活動をする。
